I prefer them as standard cars and hate the look of most hot rods, but there's quite a big Club for vintage ones now, so sadly I suspect more will be butchered.

This is the local expert with one he's made from bits. It has a tuned flathead V8.

This one has been trimmed like a Rolls-Royce inside, it's has a roof chop and IMO looks better than the original because it's tastefully done.

And this one is pretty standard except for lowered suspension, smaller, wider wheels/tyres and a tuned flathead V8.

My son www.richardjamesupholstery.com does mostly R-R & B and expensive vintage cars, but increasingly he's getting these hot rodders for customers, so now he's building one out of a Pilot chassis and loads of other bits that would otherwise have been scrapped.

I'll post pictures if anyone is interested, but everything I own is completely standard and I'd love a Model Roadster or Coupe.

the shame is, that most buyers in the market for an A intend to "hot rod" it; and for that particular car, that would be a heartbreak. it may not be a concours showpiece, but it seems complete and in good order and would make a smashing daily driver.

I agree that I hate seeing a good roadworthy car hot rodded but sometimes you cant blame the owner who sells it on knowing what its fate would be. I know a fellow who had a 1948 Mercury 4 door on a club licence, a good honest complete and running example even though it was no show stopper it drove quite well (I know, I had driven it) and he advertised it for sale at what I considered was a fair to generous price and the few "restorers" who looked at it wouldn't pay what he wanted even though I recon it should have been considerably more, so when a "hot rodder" turned up and agreed that it was a fair price and would pay without even haggling he sold it. I nearly cried when I heard, but the rodder was up front with what he intended and I hope will do a good job on it.
