Gidday,
Ralph was asking about how to adjust the steering on his Morris 8 inside another thread. I sent this via PM to him but thought it only fair to share with one and all

Thanks Rosco663! My Jowett is fitted with a Bishop Cam Box the column of which threads itself neatly between the inlet manifold and the cylinder on the off side which adds an interesting dimension to engine overhaul. I agree that most of the wear occurs on the peg, and I am surprised that they do not mention the trick, that I have used on several boxes, of simply pressing the peg out of the arm, rotating it 90 degrees and pressing back (the peg wears on 2 opposite faces only). This often returns a worn box to almost new condition with no capital outlay!

Always presuming that a previous owner has not already made use of that trick, of course!

I can't help thinking that anyone with sufficient mechanical knowledge and enthusiasm to strip and repair a steering box would have sufficient nous to get a new one made up and press it into place, should this be the case.

New pegs are available and only about £10, so shouldnt break the bank if required.

Yes, but possibly not enough nous to realise that it would need to be case hardened. Therefore Dave's suggestion of a new replacement from a reputable source for a modest sum makes a lot more sense.

Possibly Ian Harris ian@harris84.fsnet.co.uk, but certainly the various MG parts specialists who supply for the TA, TB and TC.
