Ok a question about fuel pumps and carbs. I have a Standard Flying 10 engine(1276cc of raw power) and its come with a twin su set up but no fuel pump. I suspect it was fuelled by a electric su pump set up. My question is would a standard mechanical fuel pump deliver enough or does it have to be the electric type. This is on a project car so no issues on if its original etc.

My Sunbeam Rapier had two thursty downdraft Zeniths and it ran happily on a single camshaft driven pump. I'm sure your Standard will have a lessor thirst.

I would have thought a mechanical pump was fine, on a Flying Standard would it have been that originally? _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I would have thought that twin or dual electric pumps were fitted because of the unreliability of a single pump rather than volume required. Nowadays electric pumps have come a long way what with transistorised points etc.

Yeah its a couple of smallish su's so I reckon the camshaft driven pump could cope. When I got this project someone had put a blanking plate over the mount. |
