Hi Dennis, I had a look in Nigel Thorley's 'Original Jaguar XJ' book and it says that the V12 S3 XJ switched from 205s to 215s in 1981. Pirelli P5s became an option at this time.
When the XJ6 S1 was launched it came fitted with Dunlop SP radials - ER70VR-15. When the S1 XJ12 was launched, it came with a revised version of this tyre - the 205/70VR15, and this tyre remained standard fit til 1981 when the switch to 215s was made.

Hi Rick I think my tyres are not correct speed rating 215/70R15 so 215/70VR15 should be fitted .I think ill drive slowly till i renew them lol.
Thanks again Dennis |

For once, I've just checked something before opening my mouth on this forum....
You do realise that using tyres of an incorrect rating, be it speed, loading or anything else for that matter, is a contravention of Construction and Use Regulations, and could therefore invalidate your insurance in case of an accident?
If you do a bit of trawling, you will see several cases to prove my point. |

Hi Rick sorry to be a pain but back to tyre issue I noticed that alongside the 215/70R15 marking there is also V97 marked .Does this mean they are the higher speed rating? Dennis. |

Hi
This link gives tyre speed and load ratings and also a conversion tool in order to maintain same rolling circumference.
http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyrspeed.html
V is speed max 149mph
97 is 730kg max load on the one wheel |
