Hi can anyone help, I'm having trouble with the voltage regulator on my Austin ten. Either its off (no charge at all) or charges uncontrollably up to 20amps on the ammeter, no cut off

Its a new/replacement regulator, the wiring is correct (I think!- there were'nt as many terminals on this one), the dynamo charges OK. Is it anything to do do with the two screws on the top- tried adjusting, nothing happens.

Thanks, Chris

What type is it. cars then as now used stock electrical parts that fitted to a lot of other makes of the time.

They are reliable, simple and can be adjusted and repaired but only if you follow a set procedure - random tinkerings will ruin it and the dynamo/wiring

Hi Chris,

One possible explanation is that the shunt coil in the regulator is open circuit. It is connected between the D and E terminals. Having said that so does the shunt coil in the cut-out so you would need to disconnect one from the E terminal in order to determine whether it's O/C or not.

Hi Chris

Is it a 2 or 3 brush dynamo? ( if you don't know can you read they dynamo model number?) and what control box / regulator are you using? you may have a later control box trying to regulate a 3 brush dynamo. Some where on the forum I did post how to set control box's up.
