Afternoon folks
Just joined the forum so thought I'd start a couple of threads on my two classics...
First up is the Zircon Blue 1970 P5B Coupe I purchased only last week, previously owned for a while by Rick our forum host... since Rick had it it's been about 95% restored by the next owner who passed it onto me as he's bought himself a Mk2 Jag to restore and couldn't justify hanging onto it (a familiar story no doubt). I've had it a week and in that time have been going round it with a fine toothed wotsit tidying up a few things, such as the coachlines, which being vinyl were easy to trim at the ends to make them look more like the hand painted factory originals. They're also the wrong colour but being as they look quite tidy I'll leave them for now - I bought the car as a long term keeper so there's plenty of time to change them if I feel like it. I've been looking for a good V8 Coupe since the end of last year (I had one a few years ago but sold it and regretted it soon after), some very nice examples came along but not having the funds in place scuppered actually buying any of them, however in the last fortnight everything fell into place and I found myself driving this one home last Thursday, almost in a state of otherwordlyness it has to be said, as I wasn't expecting it to be so nice in the flesh. Anyway a deal was struck and found myself behind the wheel of a proper Solihull bruiser once more.
There's still plenty to do - the bumpers look great in the photos but could really do with rechroming at some point, there are some (minor) paintwork bits to finish off, the missing sill trim strips need fitting and I've just ordered a set of black & silver reflective number plates to get the look I'm after - the plates currently on it are the originals from 1970 but the front one especially is looking very tired and lets the car down a bit (to my eyes anyway). The interior is very tidy and the smell as you open the hefty doors is just how it should be in a forty three year old Rover, while the underside and engine bay are nice and clean all round - it's only done just over four hundred miles since it was rebuilt.
This is the car as bought - I'll post more pics once I've finished all the little jobs off...
(My other motor is a '68 Mk2 Morris Cooper 1275 S which is currently being restored - I'lll start another thread on this later )
Cheers, Nidge |

Welcome - and stunning car, you're a fortunate man.
I much prefer the Coupe, but I could live with the saloon. I volunteer at a transport museum in Glasgow and we're recently been gifted and placed on display a dark blue P5B Saloon that was owned by Lord Macfarlane of Bearsden KT, so you're in good company. |

Thanks Scotty - you're right, I still can't believe my luck at finding the right car just at the right time... ! |

Certainly are Rick! It got a bit warm in central London traffic in the middle of the day though - had to park up near a pub and let it cool down for a bit! _________________ '68 Mk2 Morris Cooper 1275 S

I'm saying nothing squire, know what I mean
As I type this the car is sat across the road on my neighbour's drive while we're having some new guttering fitted on the house - I've just looked out the window at it and thought 'blimey that looks nice!'. My mate drove it a few days agao while I took some photos, it's strange seeing your own car being driven round by somebody else and I thought 'mmm, sounds nice too' _________________ '68 Mk2 Morris Cooper 1275 S

I meant to post these the other day - my oppo Big Jon came over in his low mileage SD1 to have a shuftie at the new purchase so naturally I grabbed some photos of the two Solihull cruisers side by side... you wouldn't think to look at them that they came off the same production line...

Very different Rick yes - but both are much nicer to be in and drive than my 2008 Fiesta! Jon's SD1 feels remarkably modern, not to mention spacious
The new plates arrived for the Coupe yesterday, managed to get them fitted this afternoon...
