As in previous years, a group of likeminded souls gathered at a friends' old garage to watch this classic lorry run rumble by.

Here's the first of two batches from Sunday:

Great stuff Rick - wish I'd remembered to come up and view. Drove LAD cab Albions and AEC Mammoth Majors in the 70's early 80's. You needed some arms to steer an 8 wheeler without power assistance!. Recall coming up the M5 in an AEC 8 wheel tanker overnight years ago. My road atlas just fitted between the bottom of the dash and the throttle pedal in flat on the floor position as a sort of cruise control. In those days the M5 went to 2 lanes where the Ross Spur went into Wales.
Trying to fit 2 days work into one I recall leaving Bristol then nothing until finding myself 10 miles into Wales having on auto pilot followed the slow lane onto the Ross Spur. The shock woke me up - did a U turn on a deserted motorway over the centre reservation (no barriers then and it was a double driver) and back to Shropshire.
Never did that again - ---- of course I suppose its all Tachos now none of the books made up weeks later anymore.

Oh and I hated the LAD cab as like a Bedford you had to almost crouch to see under the top of the windscreen - all the designers must have been under 5ft 6ins. The Ford D series seemed the most comfortable to me.

Glad you liked them.

The best thing for me with this run is that you can photograph the vehicles in their natural environment, ie on the road or parked up in a transport cafe car park. I'm really not keen on photographing vehicles parked in fields (this goes for cars too), I just don't think they look right but with most shows, it's photograph them on grass, or nothing.

Those photos take me back to trundling along the Great North Road in the back of my Dad's A40 and looking out the rear window at all the lorries. Great photos, thanks for posting them; I must try and get to that show.

Yes, it's great seeing them 'In action' ....it doesn't make them look so much like Museum Pieces. Smile
