Odd isn't it? That isn't the original engine, as claimed. The clue is the engine cover, which is for the B series OHV engine, though that was a 1500 and not introduced until early 1957. This is a 1956 model, so would have started life with a 1500 sidevalve with the 3 speed.

Basically, the engine has been changed for a 1600 B series and the engine cover changed. I wonder if the buyer realised and minds?

Also wonder how he feels about the roller door?

I'd guess the roller door was done for whatever purpose the van was bought for new. Wouldnt bother me too much, well untill I wanted to load something wide into it.... As for the engine conversion, that just sounds practical especially in somewhere as huge as Australia. The higher ratio diff sounds useful, I'd been considering some sort of subtle update on mine to make it more practical, but had been thinking about an overdrive, so the low ratios are still there when you need them. (Its hilly round here!)
I would have probably felt the need to do something about the rear lights though...

Looking closer, its lost the oiginal dashboard, but gained an extra drivers seat for the passenger, so presumably a spares van was involved at some stage - possibly where the engine cover etc came from. No door boxes for the sliding doors to go into either....
Mmm easy to be picky about other folks vehicles. Mines hardly perfect at the moment.
