OK so updating.
We had topass on the continental. There was just something TOO dodgy about the deal, and I wasnt really convinced that everything was as should be
However I now have a 1979 Cosmopolitan, which is a little bit smaller (Other half thinks its beautiful from the outside, but thinks it may have been made for a different species of human on the inside - a much smaller one) I love it though and the kids love it toowhich is a good thing.
It is dry. Had fun with the moisture meter and its good. Our mechanic friend went underneath and said thats good too, and we have pulled carpets and stuff up in random places and thats looking good too. Someone has played a bit fast and loose with the interior decor. I have the original documents/info for it, which was a nice touch. There are a few bits and bobs which need a fix up, but it will certainly service us well in the meantime until we can find someone who knows about gas/electrics to check it out and do a few bits for us (any recommendations in the SE???)
The previous owners have obviously done some stuff to it. It now has a 240V electric circuit and has a leisure battery (where the brochure only mentions running 12V off the car battery) and they have removed the gas water heater from the kitchen and cut the water lines underneath. They have taken out the original fridge and put in a nasty modern one. I have found replacement s for fridge and gas heaters, as per the brochure. My problem comes from being very worried about fiddling with gas and electrics. I dont think I am incapable, I am just aware of the dangers involved and know I have never done it. There is an original wiring diagram in the brochure but as its been changed to accomodate 240V that poses a problem to me.
There are also a few more bits and pieces, such as broken drawers, and missing trim here and there, so will need to see what to do about that. OH seems to feel he wants it to look like it did when it came out of the showroom. My aim isnt quite as high as that. Initially I just want it safe weatherproof, working and fun! |

where are you based Emma - if you're not too far from me I don't mind having a look at things for you both (having undertaken a major Carlight restoration myself I might be able to give you some pointers) _________________ David Rachel
