| She looks really nice to me, good useable rally condition. I never think a car needs to be concours, they are there to be driven and enjoyed. |

The TC at 15.5 cwt was no ball of fire. The 4/44 with the same engine
weighs 50% more!

Yes a quick look up - top speed 73 mph 60 in 29.9 secs on road test in period. From memory I think the gearing is about 14 mph/1000 rpm in top so somewhat undergeared by modern standards. The MG TC was a little quicker as a quoted 54 bhp against the 44 or 46 of the 4/44 but still low geared if not as low as the TD at again from memory 14.8 mph/1000 rpm. This is why many TD/TFs have Ford 5 speed boxes or as mine diffs of much higher ratio giving around 18 mph/1000 rpm in top.
Suspect this is why once B series engines became readily available it became the 15/50 with that fitted and higher gearing. Many 4/44s were broken for the XPAG type engine - I've an engine here somewhere in pieces.
Always find it quite amusing that my 1500cc Alvis 12/50 being the sports version was a guaranteed 80 mph car in 1928 but my MG TD albeit 1250cc but 20+ years later was only a 78 mph max machine! _________________ Jonathan Butler
