Hi everybody
I just thought I would tell you all about my little truck. I have a BMC 900FG dropside lorry which we believe started it's life working for a Leyland dealer in the Liverpool area called H.Woodwards I am told that it worked right up until the late 90's
It then it passed on to some new age travellers who fitted an old wooden horse box body with leaded glass windows & a pot bellied stove in the middle of the floor.
My mate bought it off them in 2002 & we restored it & fitted it with the dropside body & between us we have rallied it ever since.
He went to live abroad but not wanting to part with it he basically appointed me gaurdian of the old girl & said treat it as if it's your own but dont sell it, he has even granted me to paint it whatever colour I like as long as it's in fitting with an old truck & not something stupid like bright pink.
The 900FG is arguably the rarest version of the BMC angle-cab range I only know of a small handfull of others, it was plated at just over 9 tonnes gvw & came with either the 6cyl 4 litre petrol or the 6cyl 5.1 or 5.7 diesel, my example having the 5.1 diesel.
The main feature distinguishing the 900 from the others in the range was the unusual pronounced snout on the front which was to allow space for the larger diesel engine.
Although there was another snouted model this was for a completely different reason, the 420FM built for the GPO was basically a 420FG with the 4cyl engine shifted forward to allow space inside the cab for an extra seat in the middle & the snout was a moulded fibreglass affair as opposed to the pressed steel version on the 900FG
Well that's all for now
