| I found that a few days ago Rick and thought 'if only my garage was three inches longer' - it would be great to take that to our National Rally next month! |

Normally I would have said the same but somehow on an example like this I'm not so sure.
"Stand out" feature perhaps but painted body colour they would look great.

I have always admired the good looks of a RM Riley. Would a 2.5 be better?
What are the pros and cons between a 1.5 and a 2.5?
Is it just fuel consumption, is the 2.5 much faster or not? Parts availability worse? |

Parts availability equally good for both models, either from the Riley Motor Club or Riley RM Club - there's also a very good Riley club in the Netherlands: http://www.rileyclub.nl/
The larger engined car is quicker and has better pulling power for hills (though that might not be a concern to you ) It's reckoned to be not so nimble as the One-and-a-Half - heavier steering.
Great cars to own and drive; I'd have one again tomorrow if my garage was two inches longer! |

Just wait a few more days and it will no doubt grow a bit more, you needed 3 more inches yesterday.  _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

It's days like this I get a very itchy "trigger" finger, must log off the PC ASAP

I've still got the handbook for one of the RMs that dad had in the '60s, wish he'd kept one of them, especially the 2.5 Roadster

The 2.5 has quite decent performance but the car is far far too heavy for the single carb 1.5 engine.
They all handle very well and have good brakes but they're all very noisy and not easy to work on. You usually need to dismantle lots before you can access anything. A bit like modern cars.
RM club has an excellent spares scheme covering all RMs.

I found the 1½ Litre to be slower but nimbler due to less nose weight. I took mine round the Le Mans circuit and could out-corner more powerful cars but they pulled away on the straights. In everyday motoring, with today's speed limits, both are capable, comfortable and enjoyable.
The brakes vary depending on the year; late cars are all-hydraulic, earlier cars aren't. I thought access was very good, what have you found that isn't Peter?
The RM must have the best spares availability of any car of its era; either from clubs or specialists. The Roadsters are nice and higher prized but I rather like the Drophead. |

I can't remember all my gripes now but the last one recall was the need to remove the petrol tank just access the gauge sender.

Not necessary if the odometer works, or, in the case of a roadster, if you own a stick. |
