Thats a shame
Strange that a place that looks SOO Art Deco, will be demolished.
Bet they will regret that later .
Have never been there, but this place had significant impact on my life.
This was where my cars second owner saw JanSpeed,s Turbo conversion for the A series engine,
and put in a order for them to do it, on the car I found so many years later, and now own.

Hi guys,
I was in Copenhagen today, to pick up a DVD with all my Parents old 8mm film.
you wont belive what I found = my parents were in London back in the 50ies,
and one of them (probably my Mother) was hanging out the window of the car,
recording all they saw, as they drove around London.
Inbetween it all = the main Earls Court entrence building
Hope you like, and if anyone could help, with adding what year this was recorded ?
would I be very gratefull, as I dont have my Parents anymore.

I'm not sure of the date, but the motor show is for 18th-20th October, so that should help work it out.

Hi
During the 50's
I believe, though not certain, that the Motor Show would have included at least one weekend day.
Oct 18-20 was Thur-Fri-Sat in '51 and '56
It was Fri-Sat-Sun in '57
I discounted any other 3day combi. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Hi Penman,
thanks SOO much
the 1957 makes sence, and I think my Mother also mentioned this year, as the one they were in England.
I am no expert on these nice cars in the clip, but do they add up with 57 ?

Hi
I think there is a Zephyr Mk11 at 28seconds.
They were introduced in '56.
I have only now looked at the video, it looks to me like 16th - 26th.
That would still fit '57.
Press & VIP day Tuesday but not advertised, or Wednesday and then public days including 2 Saturdays
This youtube confirms 16th-26th.

Hi,
yes that does look very "fresh"
in your link I see the new MG A, this was my Father,s next car.
I have 8mm from the trip to Italy with the MG car club in 1958.
The car looks brand new (Red) which is very logical now

My first memories of Earls Court are from 1970 when I went to the Motor Show with my Father. The big news that year was the Range Rover. My Dad wanted one until he found out that it would only do 14 MPG on a good day! Those first ones were really aimed at well heeled farmers and had 2 doors and a plastic interior which could be hosed out!
I have had a couple in fact I have one now; a 2000 P38 4.6 HSE Vogue with special Napa leather. The difference compared with the original is quite remarkable. Mine is quite reasonable to run on LPG .
The other sensation on show in 1970 was the Morgan Plus 8. Fitted with the same 3.5 V8 engine and resplendent in bright orange paint if there was one car I would like to have driven home, that was it!
It seems to me that the decision to re develop Earls Court is being driven by the potential for short term gains attributed to the frantic property price boom in the Capital. Would it not be be more in the public interest to re develop the site as a modern world class exhibition centre than just another housing development?

That's probably it, look at the Highbury development, kept the main facade ( East and west stands) clock end an North end went, built flats within the site, of which the cheapest 1 bedroom costs North of half a million
Mad!
