Something different for a Friday morning, a late-1950s Regal three wheeler needing a modicum of TLC. Handy little commuter vehicle perhaps?

It does look nicely complete and the interior looks rather better than the exterior. I love the seller's description of the engine..

THE ENGINE IS SET DUE TO STANDING

Is the neat bonnet mascot an original fitting?

Interesting to see "reliant" on the engine block. Didn't know they made their own side valves. Is it based on a larger manufacturers engine?

Based on the Austin seven. They were going to use Austin I think but Austin stopped production just as Reliant decided to use them so Reliant made their own. A lot of the parts are interchangeable like crankshafts for instance.
When behind a Reliant I always thought the back axle looked very Austiny too

Hi Rick,

Yes, that was a standard fitment.

I think the later OHV engines were Standard-based?
