The finest looking Rapier of all series, with the curved front bumper and rounded side grilles. Great colour combination too, and I love the pre-wooden dashboard.
Can't find a plausible reason for buying this! |

I'm beginning to wonder if anything of this period still has its own original number plate! Anything like this seems to have been just repaired as a minimum for an MoT and have a re reg number.
On topic you are right Rick and it is years since I saw one. _________________ Jonathan Butler

Very nice and promising project.
A village dweller owned one of these for years from 1966 until it finally rotted away in 1971.
The registration number was FJC 920, 1959 I think and it was two tone grey and cream but the grey was a lighter shade than this one.
I regularly see a metallic green "D" registered one on the roads around here and an occasional glimpse of a very early (mid '50's) example in cream and blue. I have not seen it parked anywhere locally and the owner does not show it in the local shows. I wish he would because from what I have seen of it, it's a very fine example. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

That was my first reaction, too... but was the *SJ series one of the reissues? I know *SU and *SV were, but on reflection I cannot remember *SJ being one - perhaps the Rapier was an original Scottish car!!!! |

I'm pretty certain that SJ was one of the re-issue series.

| Presumably this is MOT and tax free, so the claim of 6 months tax is virtually worthless! Does not give the appearance of a car that has run recently! |

As a Sunbeam Rapier enthusiast I keep a good lookout for these cars.
This one has been around a bit.
I did not like the fact that someone had got to the car first. Never mind coded welder, was the guy used to working on Sunbeam Rapiers.?
I would rather buy an untouched car than one half started.
Some years ago a friend was selling a half finished Jaguar MK2,a friend who was a so called welding expert had carried out the work prior to emigrating to Australia.
When I went to view the car the doors would not fit,he had welded on the sills with them off the car.
The rear boot did not fit correctly either.
He was used to clean clinical factory work, not working on old cars.
I know coded welders who work on factory and brewery installations, working with stainless steel and other high tech installations
etc.,
When I mention that I work on classic cars they seem to be out of their depth when I mention fabricating and welding in body panels to classic cars.
Perhaps in an ideal factory environment they would be happy.
They certainly do not want to get dirty or work with rusty metal, cutting it out until solid metal is found etc
Perhaps put the car on a £6,000 body tilter and jig in a heated workshop and they might come and look at the job.....but only withif you paid them at least £45.00 an hour.
