Hi, we have been working on the Carcruiser . We have rubbed down the roof , it had been under trees for many years and it was in a really bad way, the seals are ready for new sikaflex, today we got the upol acid 8 to seal the roof befor primer. We are hoping that she will be watertight by next weekend so our son can start on the inside. The new oak panels have arrived ready for her make over. I am not good with pictures and have tried to put them on but I must have done something wrong. We are taking lots of photos so we will get our son to put them on in the week. I will up date tomorrow if the weathers fine and we progress. We still need a new A frame made and some wind down legs if anybody has any, thanks Gary & Lyyne

hi could not do much on the roof today as it was too damp. we started sanding down the off side and it's come up lovely. hope the weathers better tomorrow. need to get it inside really or at least under a canopy so we can work even if it's drizzling with that fine rain. been looking at those portable party/garage tents but we only need something for a couple of weeks, so it a bit of a waste of money. we will update tomorrow if the weather is kind, thanks for looking. Gary & Lynne

Yeah, great project. That draw bar will be an easier fix than you may think; if you deconstruct it bit by bit with an angle grinder on the welds (use the 2mm cutting discs) it will be quite easy to cut new angle steel to length and just re-weld it. Might invest in a better hitch though!

weather bad today so no work, but we did manage to get 4 new legs to use whilst we see if we can fix the originals. we have got another vintage B & B hitch but we would like to get the original back on it if we can. we want it back to as it came out the manufacturers not modernised. we have a welder coming on tuesday as that is one thing that must be right as we want to tow it on the road with confidence that its safe and at the moment there is more rot than metal.
will update tomorrow. Gary & Lynne

You say you only want it covered for a few weeks.

Do you have somewhere to keep it under cover after that.?

You could really do with keeping it under cover during the whole restoration, winter is just round the corner, not ideal for working outside on the front drive.

I'm liking this little gem and I shall be following the progress of making it all good again.
Keep the photo's coming...

hi, raining again today but we have been out looking for storage which will allow us to work on it, we are awaiting news. the cruiser is kept under a breathable caravan cover so she is dry but this does not help us progress on the repairs. so just watch this space for the next update. its very frustrating when you can't get on.

good evening, another good day today working on the roof, more rubbing down and resealing rails. also working on the mechanism that makes the roof lights go up and down. one now working fine and the other refusing to move at the moment but how much WD40 can it resist before it gives in. gentle gentle dont want to break it.
the roof inside looks like it needs more work than we thought, so we can't seal the middle rail until the new wood goes in the ceiling as after cleaning it out the wood is soft so there is no point doing half a job so it will be replaced completely or spliced in whichever is required.
welder did not arrive so will chase him as we want to get it mobile asap

hi this is todays offering, the main roof beam is rotten so the ceiling needs to come off. so we might as well strip everything out and do it properly

ok there is some other rot but not as bad this end as we thought. the back rests of the seats are attached to the walls so they have been removed for replacing also the front cupboards are out and they will be re oiled and given a little tlc as they are perfect. no more work until monday as we need to get wood and ply so we have all in stock before we start. we have to remember it gets worse before it gets better, looking quite sad tonight.

plus gas is your friend here with seized mechanisms

far superior to wd40 in its penetration qualities. wd40 is ok for preserving afterwards

lovely resto job so far, keep it up
