Hi Newbie here and having looked through the many strings on this site I'm hopeful someone maybe able to fill in the background to the car in the attached picture. I know absolutely nothing about the car so any info would be a step forward!!!
http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b607/Icknieldrobin/IMG_0010_zps8253ae5e.jpg
My wife has been researching our family backgrounds and has failed so far to establish who is the driver so attacking the dilemma from a different angle we thought we might be able to establish the make of the car and any other interesting info anyone can offer. The photo was found amongst my grandparents personal effects when they passed on. So we think there must be some family connection; the family lived in South Oxfordshire for more than 100 years although I'm not sure if that has any relevance.
Thanks in advance for looking and if anyone can tell me anything about the car, the mark, no's built and when and if any still survive I'd be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance

I think I should know what that is, but I am struggling so far
First of all, it is an English light car of the 1912-14 period; I have eliminated Humber, Singer, Calcott, Stellite, Standard, Briton, Morris, Perry from the possibles. So what's left... |

Thank you all for your thoughts and thanks UK Dave for showing the image. I tried to load the photo onto the page but when I failed I resorted to the instructions. I still live in hope we will establish the identity of the car. Thanks all . Doug |

Try The Automobile magazine. They have a photo finds section and often call for readers to identify vehicles...or even parts of...!
Surprised that members here have not identified it though. |

Radiator shape suggests it might be a Clyde, but I can't locate a suitable photo to compare. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Peter- Unfortunately Baylis Thomas did not start manufacture until 1922, and this car is much earlier than that.
Maybe Baylis of Reading is the owner. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

A bit more hunting has turned up another possibility- Briton. Certainly the radiator shape is similar, as are some other features, and a later-say about 1914/15 body would likely have a proper cowl, unlike the illustrations of
earlier machines.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts all very interesting. My grandparents lived in Goring on Thames and for some reason Roverdriver has hit a button in the depths of my memory with his reference to Baylis of Reading. I seem to recall there was a Baylis shop in the village but can't recall where for the life of me. Anyone with local knowledge?? I'm pursuing with the Reading Town Forum. I've also had feedback from The Automobile so that's encouraging. Thanks everyone for your interest. Doug W |

Hi Doug. It is not unusual on this forum for little bits of trivia to arrive from various sources. I have a photo that no one in the family could ever identify, it turned out that the subject was not related but the photographer was. The location was researched and I was able to pass the photo back to the family. |
