The insurance on my 47 Minx runs out soon and I recently had my renewal forms come through. I read carefully through and they have given me a loyalty discount and NCD etc but to my surprise my premium which last year was £68 has gone up to £88.
I am presuming this could be a result of the pre-60 MOT change?
I know a £20 increase isn't that much but percentage wise it is and also when I phoned to query the loyalty discount they couldn't give me a figure or percentage for that?? |

After shopping around in May I moved the insurance on my Triumph to Peter James. I couldn't better their quote of £87.55 with agreed value of £7,000 & an additional excess of £100. When the Zephyr was due in October I approached them to see if I could insure both cars on the one policy. This was no problem at all & cost me £47.13 with an agreed value of £15,000 plus the extra £100 excess, to take me up to the same renewal date of the Triumph, (7 months). I guess I'll be staying with them come May.

I have used several brokers over the years, but my policies have always been with Chaucer. landcrab insurance is due Christmas eve and yesterday current broker phoned to inform me that Chaucer will no longer insure cars in my postcode They had managed to secure me another quote elsewhere for £165 compared to the £103 I paid last year. I trawled the net yesterday afternoon and Peter James reckon they can offer £82 unlimited mileage so looks like I will be going with them. |

Peter James insurance.
I have a multi vehicle policy covering 10 vehicles which are all on the road....total cost £450.00
Everything from a Jaguar XK150 to an Austin A35 van.
When you phone a real person answers and knows all about your policy without silly questions.
Add another vehicle on the policy for about £30.00.

We are with Footman James for 5 of our cars and renewed this year because the renewal docs were received too late to do anything about a huge increase. We are no longer happy with the "service" or price even thoyu we have been with them since 1998 when it was Clarkson Puckle with Royal Insurance. It became AON and took over FJ brokers and only last week Aon has itself been absorbed into Towergate so more changes may be due next year _________________ Rover P2

| I've been with Peter S Taylor since 1999. They've provided a consistently good, reasonably priced, service. |

Hi,forgot to say that my ins. with Peter James was also unlimited mileage.
I was previously with Peter Best & also was told by them that the ins. company they were using was no longer offering classic ins.Cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

| I was with Clarkson puckle/Aon for about thirty years. When Footman James took them over prices rocketed. They said they were loading American cars, but the price of my Seat daily driver also went up. I am with Peter James now |

| There was an article on Breakfast about this. Seems once they've got you it is a standard trick to up the premium the year after thinking you have already got the best deal. Ring them up and ask for a new quote, not telling them you are an existing client. Apparently it works, or so said the Beeb. |

FSMA 2000 legislation imposes a "treating customers fairly" requirement. I have often wondered whether giving new customers big discounts whilst existing customers renewals are increased or it is not pointed out is "fair"
I threatened FJ with this on my renewal issue and they said they would look in to it and write/email me. They never did (never do!) and I have not really the time to pursue it.
I have 2 other cars with Peter Best for years and did not want to have everything with just the one but I will be certainly looking round next year well before renewal dates although quotes are only valid for 1 month and 2 policies in force at the same time are not valid apparently.
Then again Virgin Media do this and I always ring up every year or so to get a reduction or enhancement to my package _________________ Rover P2

| I've left Footman James now because they were more than double the price of alternatives. I can't understand how they can be so far adrift unless they want to get out of classic car insurance. |

| I was happily with Aon for, well, aeons, then they got taken over/replaced by Footman James, the service halved, the price doubled, and the operators seemed to have no idea about classic cars. I am now with Peter James, (the James of Footman James?) who are excellent to deal with and the premium is very reasonable for two cars garaged at two different locations. |
