Everybody seems to be jumping on the price of tyres alone when i only used them as an example.although you got them for a good price.i was trying to say that a certain no of people out there take advantage of the classic car customers.for instance...whilst browsing the pages of ebay.a dizzy cap for say a cortina is about £5 where as a dizzy cap for a pop 103e is £36 that was the point i was trying to make

Good point that about Ebay...not my first port of call any more.
Some secondhand items which are really not that rare judging by how often they come up have seriously steep asking prices.
Many new parts can easily bought through specialists and one-make clubs but on Ebay you would think they were rocking horse droppings.

So are the Cortina folk getting a bargain?

Or could it be that the Lucas 25D distributor as fitted to the Cortina, was fitted to loads of British vehicles, where as the distributor to the Pop was fairly unique.

I have a few Morris 8's the price of bits for them compared to the replacement (post war minor) is eye watering........brake slave cylinder £70, same for a moggy £10. Now I know the firm that produces the 8 slave cylinder, and trust me they make less % margin than the firms flogging the £10 post war minor cylinder... low volume equates higher cost its simple economics.

If you want a cheap to run classic buy a Moggy, Spitfire, Mini, or MGB etc, if you want something different , be prepared for a higher cost of parts.

Hunting for window U channel of the flock / felt covered variety yesterday, I found that ebay was at least 3 times the price when compared to going direct to a specialist website ~ very pleased to have stumbled across Woolies. So I agree with Colwyn500 ebay is no longer my first port of call..

I also recommend Woolies - not the cheapest but quality is excellent,service is extremely quick,it's new & they have it in stock,cheers,JD.
