I'm restoring a basket case KC 1/2 ton Dodge. Got the radiator and grill but can't figure out how they mount to the frame. The 2 bolts pointing down from bottom of radiator must attach to a bracket, which then mounts to the frame. Is that right? What's the bracket look like? Here's a photo--all this beauty needs is a little fix-up/tune-up and we'll all take a ride. Thanks. Charlie

Wow, hadn't noticed that you've added a pic of your truck - what a beauty!!!!!!! I don't have any photos showing the front end of that model, but your theory on the mounting sounds about right.
Whats the story with your pickup, how did you find it??

Charlie,
I am in the process of restoring an Australain assembled KC. I am having trouble posting an image from here.
However drop me an email, and I can send you the best picture I have of the area, and can get a better picture of the bracket and assembly.

Hi Ben, welcome to the forum - if you still have problems, email me the pics and I'll put them on here. Or upload them to photobucket/imageshack and send me the links

cheers, Rick

PS would be interested to hear about your truck!!!
PPS I'd recommend not including an email addy in your footer, it may lead to spam emails

Hi Charlie,
On my KC the radiator sits in a U shaped cradle which sits on the front cross
member as per the picture. It's all held by those 2 holes in the middle.
The cradle could be the one leaning against the spare engine.
If I can be of any more help let me know.
regards,
Manuel in Oz

Its appearance is more or less how I got it.
Have done some mechanical renovations though.
If anyone wants to know more about their cars, I can decipher KC serial nos.

YES, MANUEL IS CORRECT. THERE WILL BE A RADIATOR SUPPORT THAT MOUNTS TO THE FRAME. IT WILL BE A U SHAPED CRADLE THAT WILL HOLD THE RADIATOR IN PLACE, PROBABLY FROM THE SIDES. SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT MOUNTING FOR THE GRILL FROM THERE.

Hi chashlow
Did you fiqure out how to mount the radiator yet? The bracket laying up against the engine is the main fender/wing mounting bracket and goes under the radiator. The open 'U' on each end of it joins to the flying fender brace under each fender/wing. Does your rad shell have 4 or 5 holes in it on each side flange? Some trucks/cars did and some didn't. I don't know why. Anyways there is another large 'U' bracket that fits inside the fender brace bracket and holds the rad up in place. It may or may not have the 5 holes in it. It may even still be attached to the rad shell by those 5 holes which had rivets in them?
Not to confuse the issue, the rad shell rear edge may just be bolted to the radiator apron and the second 'U' bracket sit inside them. I've seen it done both ways ,with and without the 5 small rivets in the rad shell sides.
If you can post some more photos of all the bits you have I might be able to see which way you particular truck went together if you haven't fiqured it out. I have restored a '35 KCL van over the last several years. Your truck is a First Series, the Second Series in '35 have rear opening doors.
