This mascot is from a Hispano-Suiza of the early '20s.
It belongs to an elderly friend of mine and there is an interesting story to it.
His father was the manager of a large estate in the Scottish Borders and the car belonged to the titled gentleman who owned the estate.
His chauffeur did not like the mascot as the legs of the stork extended beyond the bonnet line and it had to be turned to allow the bonnet to open.
The chauffeur eventually broke the legs off to allow easier access.
The estate owner was far from pleased when he discovered this and instructed my friend's father to order a new mascot which was duly fitted to the car. (It is not known if the chauffeur kept his job!)
The damaged mascot lay in a drawer for many years until it was spotted by a very skilled man who made new legs for the stork and re-attached them most expertly. I have examined the mascot closely and can see no sign of the repair.
Incidentally, have a look at the stork's beak. Have you ever seen a more lethal mascot?
