I have the artillery wheels on my 1928 saloon car, this weekend I ventured to remove the car from the garage for inspection prior to season start. Pleased (in a strange way) to spot that the front offside road wheel has a nasty 7'' split along the centre join. Removed offending wheel and put on the spare. Removed tyre and tube for inspection of wheel internal to find corrosion had weakened the wheel to the extent of tyre pressure causing the two halfs to start parting company.
Advise from the Vauxhall car mentor that it might be possible to effect a repair of weld or braze the damage. Fingers crossed that a good local garage can get me out of trouble, this week I will know if I need to search for a replacement wheel.
Anybody else come across this problem? |
