An unusual J2-based campervan, not a bad looking motor but I'm not sure what it'd be like to drive....?

I quite like that, would be great for two people, four or five might be a bit of a squeeze. Do you think it migh have been an ice cream van once? - I was just thinking that looking at the side window layout. As for driving - never driven a J2 but wonder if its like the commer with its narrow track, at the end of the day its a fifty year old van I've got a 70 year old Rover I didnt buy it for the modern driving experience!

Pretty sure it's a Paralanian, the Type 1 or Type A or whatever they were called. I had the one that followed, the Hovis-loaf-on-wheels shape. I still have the brochure.
Name comes from (believe it or not) being made in Parry Lane, Bradford. I went on a Paralanian National Rally in 1998. We had 8 turn up!

I should think it is only marginally faster than a bowtop and pony. Iirc it has been for sale for sometime on carandclassic. I bet it's a hoot to drive and see the world rush past.

Like rocket ships, Bigjohn.
With the power of the BMC B-series 1500cc engine and only two tons of coachwork, the speed was exhilarating.
The 3rd/4th-where-1st/2nd-normally-is gear change made journeys even more memorable.

I love it, it somehow reminds me of Munch's scream. I'd bimble down to the south of France in it, but I'm retired so I can take 3 months off.....

Glad I read this post. For years I've been trying to convince my son that I once drove a van with the gearshift pattern reversed and that it had been a J2. He'll have to believe me now, thank you! Wink
