|
|
| Greetings: This is my first posting on the new Forum. I have been purchasing some new parts for my E83W Pickup restoration recently and have been able to save considerable money by sourcing some parts that are shared with U.S. domestic Ford cars locally rather than ordering them from England. The key is the part number prefix which indicates the vehicle originating the part. A prefix of "40" for example indicates the 1932 Model 40 car. The E83W uses some of its bits like diff. gaskets and bolts. The diff. bearings are from an E62A, a British evolution of the U.S. model 48. And so it goes- check those prefixes! sometimes the suffix (number following the prefix) will be the same but the prefix will be a British model, "Y" etc. These may work. You must compare to be sure. A bit of detective work may be required as in the "E62A" case- turning out to be a Model 48 mechanically. Parts sourced locally usually cost about the same in Canadian dollars as they do in UK Pounds! I still must get a lot from the UK as well. My restoration mechanically is nearing completion with the last area, the rear axle, currently underway. I've written a more detailed article on finding E83W parts for the North American English and European Ford Registry's E-Lines paper and it should be printed in the Fall or Winter issue. |

Hi Les
Good to hear from you, glad things are coming along well.
Your article would be of use to people visiting the E83W site, perhaps you might consider sending it over to appear on there too? suitably credited to you of course..!!!!

| les i was wondering whether you may be able to decipher whether the 48 diff head may be suitable for the fordson as the original gearing is so low not sure whether the 48 model will be too high as the fordson engine is only 1000 cc may not have enough puff to turn the higher diff the ratio on the 51 prefect would be ideal but suspect the axles splines are not the same it could be worth considering .I came across a picture of the 48 diff and it looked similar other wise the model a may fit but am not sure havent meet anyone who has done a proper conversion.rustyreks |
