Not sure where to post this, but does anyone have recommendations for decent but not outlandishly expensive CCTV systems. There seem to be hundreds available but every vendor seems to sell a different brand (at least by name).
I have avoided fitting such until now as I feel that they are an intrusion, but in the last month I have had the registration plates stolen off my regular car and yesterday a couple of Jowett engines and 3 gearboxes (all ali castings - presumably the attraction) stolen in broad daylight whilst my wife was at home.
Short of hiding in a bush armed with a piece of 4 x 2 I do not see another way to deter the scum

I bought a 4 camera system from Maplin, it has a hard disc that records about 1 month activity from all 4 cameras (it only records when there is motion detected from one of the cameras) and then over rights with new recordings.
It also connects to the network, so can be accessed remotely , and will copy recordings to a DVD.
System is fine, but the cameras it came with are low spec, that said it only cost about £200. I replaced 2 of the cameras with much better spec units, and it's all worked fine for 4 years now.

The low life know the difference between a dummy camera and a real unit, so it's as much a deterrent than a tool for catching them.

Thanks Dave, Maplin is one supplier that I have looked at. Ebuyer seem to do something very similar at a slightly cheaper price, but I suspect that they are identical and badged in China!
I know what you mean about the dummy cameras too, that's why I want a realish system
