Perhaps collecting a hot water tank in a two-seat convertible, or going shopping in an armoured personnel carrier? What seemingly inappropriate journeys have you undertaken in your old motor? Inappropritate usage, that didn't involve a trip out, also counts Smile

With my wife away with our normal car I was on the point of getting the SS out of the garage to jump start a neighbour's modern Audi. As it happened my wife returned and the Mondeo was used instead.

Drove the Morris 8 round the back garden, stopping at each of the many mole hills Shocked ...a couple of mins with the engine running with the exhaust connected to some pipe that was stuffed down the mole hill...then on to the next one...sorted the little blighters out Smile

Now that is cruel. Sad

A chainsaw motor with a bit of tube running off the exhaust and a strong oil mix is far better. Very Happy

Had many such an occasion though the one that stands out is collecting my mum and her friend from the airport complete with two hand luggages and 2 big suitcases in my blue mini!
My modern had the voltage regulator pack up on the same day and I had not completed the restoration on the hunter yet so had no other choice.
Everyone at the airport was looking and starring in awe as I proceeded to pack all the stuff including mum and friend in the mini!
At the end it was pretty easy as before leaving the garage I had taken out the passenger's front seat so mum and friend sat on the back seat, hand luggages went in the boot and both suitcases just fitted in the front instead of the seat!!

Around 1990 after a massive, long lasting, snow-fall with no traffic moving in my area my son with a babe in arms at his home rang to say they had no water because of burst mains.
Although I had a modern car and my Gentry, I had used and flattened the batteries of both by using them indoors for lighting etc, having had no mains electricity for days.
However. We did have water and my 1951 FX3 was parked outside with a foot of snow on top though the batteries (2x6V) barely had enough in them to light the ignition warning light.
In desperation and forlorn hope I inserted the starting handle and gave a mighty pull. It started first time! So I loaded it with all the water I could find containers for and set sail for my Son's house 6 miles away.
No other traffic on the road and snow in places axle deep. And the steep hill up to Bolsover Castle in prospect at the end of the trip.
NO PROBLEMS.
The car took everything in its stride arriving at the hillside destination on virgin snow with no other wheel tracks within hundreds of yards.
I KNOW that I would have had no chance with my other cars.
But then I also recall that when in daily use the car always would keep moving when all other traffic stopped in inclement weather. And was once was even flagged down in 8 inches of snow in Ashover village to get a heavily pregnant woman to hospital urgently when no other vehicle was moving there.
But that is another story from its heyday. But I also rember it lost its front number plate somewhere there!
Jim.

I had an issue with jump-starting a modern Audi last summer.
Picking up my Jaguar 420 from the airport I noticed I had left on the lights so had a flat battery. So brought out my jump starter cables and ask a brand new Audi A5 driver if he could jump start me. No problem. Except that we could not find the battery! Not in the engine compartment as far as we could see (many plastic covers there), not in the trunk... Lucklily an old Toyota Starlet came to the resque.
