To have the number transferred it needs to have a MOT I believe?

It looks very saveable actually, a terrific project.

And yes, it does need to have an MOT to transfer the plate.

Exactly. Not saying all plate robbers do this, but I know of a couple who definitely get bent MoT's, or swap I'D's from a rough car to a similar roadworthy one, to get the plate off. The practice is often very underhand and it's fortunate that the bottom has fallen out of the cherished number market in the last 10 years so there isn't the money in it there used to be.
