For me it works well to be in a local multi-marque club as well as my one-make club. The Droopsnoot Group is handy for technical knowledge and parts supply, but it's a national club with a relatively small number of members spread far and wide, and a lot of the shows and meetings tend to be where the largest concentration of members live (of course). The SCCCC works well for joining up with a club to attend local shows, pub nights and so on, where it's more about being in the area than what kind of car you have. |

I have been a member of the American Auto Club U.K. since its foundation in 1981. We have a local meeting in Worcester the third Wednesday every month. Attendance varies with the weather last month we had 16 American cars and I am not sure how many people, but it is surprising how many passers by stopped to look at the cars. We don't insist on club membership at our meets and members of other clubs are always welcome. The club has now become more of a social thing, although the cheap insurance and for some the help with spares and general advice makes membership worth while. |

Just got back from an evening run and meal with my local club, we do it once a month in summer instead of a club meeting. 25ish cars turned out ranging from an Austin 7 pickup to a 1999 Jag XKR? convertible. Beautiful evening for it too, 27 miles in the evening sunshine and a barbecue, lovely. |

Hi aps, try www.historicwheelsclub.co.uk - a free to enter club in your area.
There is also a classic car show at Alford on 20th July which is a good way to meet like minded loons & quines. Also Google Classic Car Clubs + Aberdeenshire - brings up a few results, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

Single marque clubs are excellent for rarer cars, where spares and tech support is useful. However, many clubs, including ATDC of which I am a member, are so south centric that any active engagement from Lancashire is all but impossible. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

I don't,and never have, belonged to a club - and don't intend to for that mater. I rarely attend meets - maybe one or two a year and then I never stay long because my attention span is quite short. I also have a particular dislike for the 'nasal' chap who thinks I'm interested in 'how many spot welds there are on a Hillman Minx bonnet'
My wife tells me it's because I'm a miserable git........perhaps I am |

World wide the SS Jaguar saloon community is pretty small and not surprisingly the centroid of owners in the UK is several hundred miles away from my home location. I do enjoy the odd event that is within a few hours drive. Unfortunately most SS Register activities involve high fuel costs in a car that is fine for 150 miles but gets a bit tiring on longer runs so consequently I do enjoy some local club events in the company of vehicles of widely different ages and makes.

The Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club is excellent at local levels, they have sections all over the country and they're busy, so there's plenty to do and lots of events to attend. The cars are cheap to buy and very expensive to maintain
The Triumph TR Register is a wonderful club with huge amounts of activity organised by local sections of really lovely people. Highly recommended but the cars are expensive to buy if very cheap to run.
I'm not a member of the VSCC, but I gather they're really good too and I'm lucky enough to be near Prescott, Shelsley and Castle Combe, all three of which have regular events worth attending.
Check out their websites. |

I was a member of the Ford Sidevalve club and the Hillman Owners Club for many years, the Ford club were active and very helpful whereas I shouldn't really say publicly what I think of the Hillman Club.
Down in Somerset we are often classed as 'out on a limb' with major clubs so although not a member of a club now we often participate in runs with local clubs and have a really good time with 'mixed' marque cars.
I also sort of agree with an earlier comment, single marque clubs often get that small group who pick up on anything non-original or who like to tell you the ins and outs of your own vehicle! |

Really? Get yourself a Riley and come along to one of our meetings, I've never heard anyone mention money - hardly any of us have any.... _________________ David
