I have been informed by Gumtree that a Cheltenham Caravan advertised on their website is very suspicious.

The owner has not placed the advert. It is a scam.

So all you Cheltenham fans out there who thought it was the bargain of the century.....it is not.

And why would Gumtree tell people that an add on their site was suspicious , but leave it on? Like Peter I can't see how the scam would work either Rolling Eyes

Gumtree deleted the advert straight away after they were told it sounded suspicious.

We received an email from them, obviously they monitor comings and goings and knew I had probably saved the advert in archive.

Not sure what the advertisers gain from such a scam.

I give my bank details out nearly everyday as part of my business transactions.
A bank account number and sort code is not really relevant to anyone.

Perhaps they wanted you to deposit funds into their bank account.

The advert was still there when I last looked. The phone number appears to belong to someone who trades in cars and caravans and is known by at least one caravan enthusiast of this OCC forum

There was no phone number with the caravan advert, I think you are looking at the wrong one.

The one I spotted was the following.

Cheltenham Sable.
Location....Consett.

Photo`s showed....
the caravan in the spray booth.
Outside the business premises.
In the road outside.

The sign board outside the business premises was obscured but part of it read....Autobody.

It had been sprayed in two pack paint.

Looked too good for the £2,200 they were asking.

The seller stated it was being sold as they had sold their business premises and lost the storage.

That is why I put it in my saved box.

It is not on gumtree now as I stated before.

I am just warning people in case it pops up elsewhere.

Hi GF. Thanks for the explanation. Clearly I was looking at the wrong advert, because, as you said there was no longer one to see.

GF I think you need to be clearer here on who the rogue is ?

Is this the same chap who refused to sell you a van ? Or someone else? Unfortunately there are decent gumtree sellers being implicated..

I do not know who the so called rogue is....I think gumtree would like to know also.

All I know is Gumtree sent me a message saying....

"This advert has been reported to us as suspicious, please do not send personal details, or send money transfers it may be fraudulent."

Someone posted the advert perhaps using someone else`s photo`s, it does happen a lot.

Gumtree deleted the advert straight away. But someone on this forum might have spotted it like me and thought it was genuine.
-----------------

The Cheltenham caravan that was advertised and not sold to my friend, has also been removed from another website after we reported the issue to them.
It appears the person we met that day had no authority to sell the caravan.

--------------------------------------

God it gets so confusing this advertising and buying game!!!

Who said I was implicating honest sellers on Gumtree,?
I was just forwarding a message I got from Gumtree about this caravan advert, to alert people on this forum.

Should I not do this next time.?

You get spoof adverts on Ebay and other sites all the time...Jaguar E Type mint condition £20,000. No phone number, just an email address.

All they need is one person to send a £500.00 deposit and that is a lovely day`s wages for them.!!!

Hope that clears it up.?
