Over the last year or so I have been having difficulty walking altho' I didn't have any pain, just getting slower and slower. I made up my mind in the Spring that I would never get around to doing any more work on the '38 Buick so I started to roughly refit the wings and doors with the view of sticking it on Fleabay. I assembled all the bits that I had and then decided that it might sell easier if I got the engine running and it had brakes. I had the brake master and wheel cylinders relined in stainless and the shoes relined 20 years ago so they got fitted. I made up a temporary fuel tank, got the battery from the Jag. and the straight 8 erupted into life for the first time since 1980. I then had fun shunting the two cars around in the cul-de-sac to the neighbours amusement as they didn't even know the cars were there in the garage. All this was two weeks ago just before I went in for a successful spine operation. All I have to do now is get some pictures taken and get It listed.

I have an Austin 1800 project on the go at the moment, which has not run in my ownership. It was so rotten I was reluctant to see if moved under its own steam in case it literally disintegrated. Engine is free though, so I have hopes for it.......

I bought my Mark 2 as a non runner in 1991 as well as the Land Rover Series 1 86" in 2010.
The Series 1 doesn't even have a Land Rover engine but a 1622cc petrol engine from an Austin A60. I doubt if it runs and I'm not concerned because it will be removed as soon as I'm able to start on the restoration.
Finding a correct 2000cc original type engine is going to be a challenge. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

I have in the shed a VandenPlas 4 Litre R that I bought 6 years ago. Before that it had been standing for at least 20 years. Waiting for its turn to get attention from me...
One of my first cars was a S1 XJ6. I had never ever seen a series one and this one was on its way to the scrapyard. I bought it and sold it on - it still lives. But I never had the engine running.
Some years later the same happened to a Mk1 Triumph 2000. This car already was delivered to the scrapyard the day before, and I was able to buy it with the registration (usually the first thing scrap pies do over here is send in the reg as being scrapped). That car also did not run and I sold it on. 20 Years later my brother bought it! He ran it for a few years and still has it - although it has been in the shed for a couple of years needing bodywork.
Over the years I have bought some cars not running but always managed to get them running. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

| I bought my first classic back in 1996, a Ford 10 Model 7W. It was worked on at first for about a year, all the engine re-built etc but then I went off to University and she was tucked back into the shed. In all that time we have never connected a battery up on her so I have never heard her run. |

| My current project hasn't run since I bought it this time around. When I first owned it, it was my everyday driver and ran quite well until it was taken off the road with rust issues. |

Oh, there've been a few!
Just found this photo of my 2-litre Aston Martin, owned for about four years in the early 1970s. Did a fair bit of work on it, but never got the engine running. The oil pump gears were totally knackered, and I couldn't find anyone to make replacements at a price I could afford.
Funnily enough, I've just come across a tin in the garage containing... two knackered oil pump gears!
