I have a feeling, based on the references to Top Gear, Clarkson and Hammond, that this series might have started off as a Peoples' Car segment for Top Gear but was developed into a series of its own.
That would explain the totally unnecessary destruction of the cars which, for me, has spoilt both programmes shown to date. _________________ David

Agree with David with regards to the 2CV and Renault 4!
Gratuitous cr@p, aimed at the lowest common denominator who's attention span is non-existent.
Otherwise very good and for once informative.
I ran a hired Renault 4 when working in Grenoble in the early '70s.
Very comfortable it was, and that dash mounted gear change was something else, but quiet it most certainly was not at speed.
I did the trip to Geneva many times, visiting the family of a friend back in SA.
The hire company charged per Km after a set amount, so my trip to Munchen and Schwaben was done with speedo disconnected!
Very easy to do in the old cars.
Picked up a couple of German lasses hitching a lift to Munchen after a holiday somewhere I now forget.
Actually I probably never found out as I spoke no German, and they no French.
Still that didn't stop young bloods having a pleasant time together
Driving through Munchen at rush hour had just about every driver, including passengers, rubber necking to ogle the little car.
Stayed in Schwaben, with car in a municipal multi-storey car park.
After a few days there, went to get the car out and nearly had a fit when the cost of the parking came up on the pay machine - 50 frigging Dm! If memory serves.
Had a sit down to recover before paying, then heard someone bounding up the in-ramp past the ticket machine and heard it spew a ticket out.
No doubt the thump from him landing in the right place activated the machine, so a clean ticket was just waiting to be used, was it not
I did the honourable thing of course.
Waited a few hours and . . . Let your imagination do the rest.
Staying there was my first experience of using a duvet, and never looked back since.

Just watched no. 3 and it's the last for me!
I withdraw my comment "Otherwise very good and for once informative."
It has gone 'South' at an alarming rate, with the three 'Races' really scraping the barrel in puerile 'entertainment', the last between the 205GTI and 911 Turbo really bringing home the depths they are willing to go, to 'entertain'.
Was I expecting too much from May and/or the BBC?
Collected 'other half' at 0310h this morning on her return from the usual jolly across the water.
Three score and 11months means I'm passed such early shenanigans.

Totally agree! It started as a pass the time magazine type program and finished as pointless rot. I was very angry with myself for not watching Grimm!

I wouldn't have known this series existed if it hadn't been for this thread .so I watched last night and found it as interesting as watching paint dry. And the conclusion? EVERY car is the people's car. God give me strength! An hour of what time is left to me totally wasted.

The first programme in the series was good, the second started to slip, and last night was just total rubbish

I'm with the last 2 posts, I enjoyed the first programme, was something different and I found the history around pre-war Nazi Germany very interesting, but part two and then three I lost interest in and it reverted to type. _________________ Born to rally, forced to work!
