I have a couple of Lock up garages I have owned for a long time, mostly full of junk.
I was thinking of clearing one out and renting it out.
Has any one done this? What should I charge etc?
Its a standard garage but also has room out side for one vehicle parked in front of it. _________________ It will come in handy even if you never use it. |

I was in a similar position last year with alock up I had owned for 25 years and was mainly full of junk.
I emailed several of the local estate agents and 2 were very keen to help to my suprise
One found someone prepared to rent at £1000 per year and the other found a buyer a £10k. garages round here rent for £50ish a month.
I finnished up selling the garage and either sold, scrapped or threw out most of the contents and kept very little of what was in there.
I would personally only let it through a agency to cut down the hassle.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic. Here in the Valleys - not exactly a wealthy area - anecdotal evidence suggests a strong demand for lockups, and of course if there's strong demand then higher rents/prices are quite possible. I spotted an advert a little while ago for a court of lockups (number unknown) for sale in Abertillery, they were looking for £90k but saying they brought in £4k or £5k rent per annum. Could be complete pie in the sky of course, but Abertillery can be very tight for parking. Not too bad for shopper's parking in town but round the narrow, hilly streets of terraced houses it can be a job to find a space anywhere near where you want to be (like handy for, but out of sight of the joke centre ) so the same is probably true in many areas of the North. The other reason people want garages, of course, is to try and prevent their cars being vandalised - and such vandalism is likely to be more of an issue in deprived areas.
Of course if you really want to know, there's nowt to stop you putting an ad on Gumtree just to test the water |

Sorry for the lateness of the reply, but if it helps, I rent a lock up garage from my local council for my Herald. It costs me about £12 a week.
It's a standard size garage. _________________ Mike,
