Many shows give out small plaques to exhibitors, they range from smart brass jobs to key rings, and small rectangular plates made of metal.

Do you remember to pick one up after exhibiting, and if so what do you do with them? chuck them in a drawer, or mount them for display on a board somewhere?

I've a few dotted about the place, but I often don't collect them, although lately I have done so that I can nail them on the wall of junior's "workshop".

I try and avoid collecting them, shame really as they obviously cost money to produce.

Might have one or two, most shows don't seem to give them out anymore. I must admit, one of my pet hates are owners who hide their cars behind those big boards full of rally plaques at shows! Annoying when you want to get a picture of a really nice car.

I've collected a few over the years - Some are now over 10 years old!

Always meant to find a nice way of displaying them and I agree that sticking them onto an old kitchen unit door is a bit naff.

Mounted, framed and in the study sounds like the best bet but I wouldn't complain if organisers were to discontinue them on grounds of expense.

I've got plenty but its remembering which vehicle I took to the show to get them that is the problem!

I make a point of trying to collect them, sometimes it means staying later than I would normally do, sometimes a helpful mate will collect it for me and pass it on next time I see them. Then I either leave them to rattle around in the boot, or stick them in a drawer somewhere. The big display board that owners used to cart around seems to be a disappearing breed these days, but then so does the show plaque. Stuart Holmes (who does Tatton) dropped them some time ago to be able to keep free entry for exhibitors, and Andrew Greenwood seems to be only doing limited numbers now and the only people guaranteed to get one are those that take their cars into the arena, his way of encouraging us to take part I guess.

They've dropped in quality as well - when I started in the late 80s doing places like Sandbach Festival of Transport and the "Wheels" show at Ellesmere Port, you'd get a nice cast brass thing, more recently they've been screen-printed bits of aluminium or even drinks coasters. But I notice it's also much easier to get old ones, with some show organisers selling them from previous shows at 50p each or whatever - so it's not a badge that you actually attended a show any more.

I'm with you on the ropes thing ruining photos Rick - sometimes it's possible to get a decent angle and avoid the ropes, but most of the time it isn't. There are ways around it as you all know - some of my photos from last year at Malpas were edited to remove blue ropes as it ruined the shot, but it's a time-consuming job and I use the tedium of it to remind me to plan the photo better next time. It's all very nice being able to manipulate photos with ease nowadays, but still feels better to not have to.

I have a few. They are displayed in the "Toy Room". One meet that we used to attend gave out participation wall plaques or trophies along with the dash plaques. I have those displayed with my racing trophies from years past.
Never have won a car show trophy.

I've never understood the reason for them these days; I suppose they're today's interpretation of the pre-war plaques awarded to competitors in the RAC Rally and other competitive events.

I haven't bothered with them recently, but still find them in drawers, cupboards and even door pockets when I bother tidying them (everyday driver so untidy)
The engraved tankard won for best in class some years ago still adorns lounge windowsill though.

As a Stationary Engine exhibitor I have gathered many over 20 years. These days though the tendency has swung towards giving glasses, pens, key fobs etc for gifts, or nothing at all, though a few rallies still give the traditional brass plaque or horse brass.
Mine are chucked in a draw, in the early days I had them on a board but it got heavier than my exhibit, most of my club mates weigh the brass ones in every few years!

The cheap aluminium ones are very good for giving blood samples, as I always seem to cut myself on the sharp corners!
