Hi

Just a copy of the post on the Classic Cars board

Have you seen a vehicle like yours in a film?

Have a look here.

Hell Drivers was on TV last night, top film featuring lots of old Dodge lorries zooming around late 1950s lanes.

Also recorded a couple of Michael Caine films the other evening, haven't watched 'em yet but the last one seems to feature an E83W quite regularly - essential viewing then!!

Watched 'Brief Encounter' a couple of times recently, the film features two different dropheads and one is possibly a Hillman, but they never showed the radiators.
Anyone ever managed to identify these?

Iv'e wasted far too much time on this 'Brief Encounter' car thing but I believe that I have finally cracked it; The first car shown with Trevor Howard driving would appear to be a just pre, or just post, WW2 Hillman Minx with a Salmons Tickford or similar drophead conversion. I think the reflection off the bonnet catch clinches it. But am I right?

There is still the second car shown in the film but it will be more difficult because Celia Johnson stated in a letter that 'it was a german car with a very long bonnet'.

Were the mascots interchangeable? They look different.

Hi
The film was released in '45 so probably filmed late '44 early '45, it is likely therefore that the car would be pre-war.

The mascots are a little indistinct, perhaps they had fitted one of the 'aftermarket' mascots that were so popular in the 20s and 30s before they became worried about people being impaled on them. If anything the mascot looks like the Morris one, but I'm fairly sure that the car is not a Morris, although I suspected for a while that it could have been the "Hindustani" type Ten.
