Hi
I didn't know the difference till you mentioned that but have now looked at the photo archive.
The pressing looks the same but without the upright emblem and a chrome strip extension of the badge. Is that the only difference? |

The profile you are talking about is bolted on, if you look at this pick of the car I have just painted, you can see the holes where it fits, guess the commercial bonnets won't have these holes, they could be welded up though. On the car its where the pinstripe is.
Also were the commercials badged as Austin? or am I thinking of something else?

Did the featured Moggie start life as a pick up? I know that these mostly had a hard life and finding side panels for them in decent condition is a task akin to seeking hens' teeth, but obviously all of the rear of this is new construction. Is the chassis a pickup? I can't see in the photo. Pickups had a massive tubular steel rear chassis didn't they? Is this maybe a born again traveller? Is that why its bonnet and doors appear to be saloon? When did the pickup cease manufacture? F = 1968? must make it a late moggie? |

Hi
According to the chap that took it, it was a pickup, though his photo record didn't show it on the chassis before starting refurb, theearliest shot was of the cab only. I noticed particlarly the bottom rear corner of the cab which is cut away unlike this one here http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/photos-goldcup/morris_minor_pickup_56.htm
But that might be a result of having to cutaway an unrecoverable load area.
Incidently you can't see it clearly but the exhaust cuts across from the N/S and vents on the O/S between the cab and the rear mudguard, the owner deescribed it as the original exhaust.
By the way why do all moggies sound the same?
Other A series engined cars don't seem to immitate moggies. |

According to my tame captive moggie expert, the vehicle could be purchased new as a chassis cab, for body builders to establish their own creations on the back. He tells me that this cab is correct. The BMC pickup sides were sandwiched in at the joint behind the doors, which is why they swell out a bit, so can probably answer my own musing. It would be interesting to know what it originally was though |
