| This really is something that winds me up, if we go out for a meal and I order a pie I expect a pie to turn up at the table. Do as I do and send it back and ask them to bring what you ordered. Some of our friends will not come out to eat with us now as they get embarassed ,but right is right. Also when did it become the thing to get your dinner turn up in many little pots and you have to tip them out on your plate burning your fingers in the process, again send it back and ask them to serve it correctly. You will of course find some of your friends decline the invitation next time you ask them to join you but you can't win them all. Ken |

To save our readers time searching. Definition of a pie.
Pie consists of a filling, fruit, meat, poultry or fish, contained within a pastry shell or topped with pastry or both.

I think the problem here is that it depends on where in the UK (or further afield in Peter's case) you live. My mother insisted that a pie had a top crust only and a pasty had pastry all around the contents! This one could run and run!

I remember once ordering a bar meal pie in England. I asked for the meat to be overcooked and the vegetables nearly raw encased in hard dry pastry and left to cool below room temperature.
I was told that such a dish would not be possible as it was below their high standards.
"strange" I replied, "you served me one last week" |

I might be misinterpreting the petition, but, is this for real? A petition to ensure a pie has a pastry base? Is it April 1st?
Petitions like this divert time away from the important issues, and also gather disdain from those who can change the rules, come on, for heavens sake, if you want a pie with a base, go to the chippy and have a Pukka Pie, or even better when ordering your 'pie', ask how it is served.
I prefer a 'pie' without the soggy base, so long live the 'pastry topped casserole'.
As a thought, there is a thread looking for suitable material for a bulkhead grommet, I think I have found the perfect solution............... _________________ KA
