Much is written about spiralling values with regard to "classic" cars. I thought it might be interesting to draw up a list of the cars that have avoided massive increases in value, when compared to their contemporaries. They should offer not just a healthy bang-for-buck, but also a relatively affordable entry to the old-car world for would-be owners looking to buy something interesting, without breaking the bank.

To begin with, I think the Herald in its various guises, and the Reliant Scimitar SE5, both offer a lot for the relatively low amounts they're typically advertised for.

Moving up the ladder, the price of a mint Sunbeam Tiger is about 20% of a mint E-type these days and 1% of a Cobra. A TR4A and a TR5 offers food for thought, and on your theme I have often mused over the Vitesse convertibles for sale. Sadly, the list of cars is getting smaller and smaller.

Rootes group similar to my Vogue.

Great usable car, easy to work on but prices are very low

Even low mile, nice condition ones like mine struggle to fetch a decent price.

Heralds are great affordable classics ( I would say that though wouldn't I? Smile ) but they haven't escaped the value rises. gone up by about 10-15% over the last couple of years.

Another one that springs to mind is the P4 Rover, while minters are quite pricey, anything less than perfect seems to be in the doldrums, £-wise, so a good option for a first buy.

Rover P4 certainly but I would also include Rover P5/5B.

For reasons I cannot understand the Rover P6 is similarly valued very lowly.
For me a Rover 3500S is a superb motor car and indeed all P6's were a large technological step forward in 1963 and it is a shame that values do not reflect this

I like the P6; always have. Won car of the year I remember.

That said, I have never been a fan of inboard brakes. Theoretical advantage maybe but not much fun to work on especially if you don't posses a 4 post hydraulic lift/ramp. Laughing
