I dont know if anybody else had used the DVLA car tax status or not ? but its gone now... see here...

https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e1s1

basically , If you came across a photo or had information about a vehicle , you could put the registration number into this search and it would tell you the vehicles status , IE taxed or not taxed. Also it would tell you when the tax was due or if it was SORNed off. If the vehicles tax was due 10 years ago, chances are the vehicle had been scrapped. Now it seems that this service is no longer available. Or does somebody know different ? "MO"

A new improved service including MOT status:

https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

But askmid for insurance status is now restricted to your own vehicle (in theory anyway)

You would think that Government IT specialists could have left a link on the old site, but no. Probably not included in the spec!!

It's mentioned something about "you must own the vehicle" all the time I've used that site - something to do with data protection.
