Hi
What car has the petrol filler behind the rgistration plate?
I am not sure of the answer, and it is probably a really easy one, but if I don't ask, I will never know!
Seems to me to be a really good idea, whonder why more modern cars don't do it, maybe because the number plate is in many bumpers now, these bumpers being soft and if someone crashes into them, they may get a big steel pipe cutting into them, shortly followed by a fire!
Any views and answers apriciated!
Cheers

Mark 2 Ford Consuls, Zephyrs and Zodiacs for one range all had a drop down number plate.
But for quiz number two - Which car hid the filler cap behind a reflector in the rear light cluster?

Buzzy - Ford Corsairs had them as well.
Brian - 1956 Chevrolets, and maybe 55's, but I would imagine you're more focused on British / European vehicles, to which I can't think of one right now. |

Humber Hawk and Snipe in the later body shape, not sure if they did a pullman in that shape but if they did that one as well probably. |

The drop down number plate was carried forward to the later Mark 3 and Mark 4 Zephyrs and Zodiacs. Seems to have been a Ford thing!
Penman is right - the Humber Hawks and Snipes from 1957 onwards had the filler behind the reflector.
Amazons have the filler on the rear panel under the boot lid, slightly offset to the driver's side, but it does mean you can have the pump on either side of the car which often saves queueing for a free pump. |
