Photo above of a camper previously owned by a friend of mine.
On Ebay that nearly always means a VW but there is the occasional Bedford or similar for sale and rarely, the appearance of a camper based on a sixties estate.car.
I'm seriously looking for a camper based on the Fiat 859/900 van, such as the Amigo, Pandora or Caravelle if anyone wants rid.
Although a niche interest, all the classic campers appear to have very loyal and fanatical following. |

I have previously owned / restored a VW Split (67), Bay (70), and Brick T25 (1988)
Wish I still had the Bay Window one, my Grandad bought it brand new from Barnett & Small in Farnham, Surrey. |

In my time I've owned a 1959 Commer with Dormobile conversion, a 1983 Commer with CI body, two Transits with coachbuilt bodies, and our one time "Wendy house", a Ford Escort van with a lift-up roof!
All of these were interspersed with various trailer caravans, until we discovered Royale caravans in 1990, and never looked back. |

Hi Brian. Remember the queue of caravans behind me trawling across Belgium a few years ago? |

As the tail-end Charlie of that convoy, I will not forget it in a hurry, nor will the old guy on his chair outside his house in the Brussels back street as we all drove past!! _________________ Brian

| It is not always the caravaner's fault. We once pulled into layby to change drivers. As I walked around the back of the van a guy behind us asked if I knew what the hold up was. |

We took our Austin Maxi and 1958 Sprite Alpine to a show once and unexpectedly came across the Malvern hills. While an overtaking lane on the hills was kindly provided, many motorists chose to stay behind just to see if we'd make it up the hill or not!
Campervans suffer the same problem though, especially the early ones with smaller engines. Can't say for sure why there aren't more owners on the forum - perhaps as it's labelled as a caravan forum? Caravans and Motorhomes are two entirely different entities and we've found that there's something of a rift between the two. Even at shows we've found that Motorhomes create their own section sometimes and don't "mix" with caravanners. No idea why. |

Hi Cameron. The forum subtitle mentions Campers and Trailers, maybe the word Motorhome should feature ? Not sure how much difference it would make.
Perhaps Camper owners are in the minority to folks with Caravans. ? |

The Commer was an early one with only a 1500cc motor. It needed second gear to climb up to exit 18 eastbound on the M4! |
