In the past few weeks, two cars I have owned before and sold on, were put for sale again. It pains me a little when I see they have deteriorated... Always have the urge to have a look again at the car. But then what? It was not sold without reason.
Best for these cases would be not to know what happened to your cars. On the other hand, it is nice to hear an old one from you has survived well and has a happy owner.

A Citroën CX I loved dearly probably has been sold for scrap a month ago.
A mint Hillman Imp I owned for years has been "upgraded" with black paint, "sport" stripes and wrong wheels. Also the rare blue interior (which was in great condition) has been replaced by modern rally seats.
The Triumph 2500 Mk2 has not become better, a two tone paint has been applied which looks so wrong.

I saw my Standard 10, the one with Standrive transmission, for sale a while after I'd sold it. It was looking very sad, dirty, with faded paint and a few streaks on it. It's probably still about, but I doubt that it's on the road.

My old 2.5 Spitfire has been up for sale a couple of times in the last 2-3 years. Now fitted with a 1.5 engine, it too was looking very neglected although I hear that it's due to be restored.

On a brighter note, my first Mk3 Spit, that I sold in about 1992, became derelict then was fully restored once more. I hear from its current owner from time to time, so that's a more positive story. He is talking about bringing it over to show me, 30 years after dad retrieved it from his work colleague's driveway in ruined condition (paid £25).

Yes, I agree.

My last Dolomite Sprint was sold on quickly (at a profit!) by my neighbour's son. The following year I saw it abandoned in a yard with it's front having had a substantial "bump".
My old Ford Escort van didn't have a straight panel on it within 12 months of my selling it to a local farmer.
My last Stag was bought by a London accountant in April 1989 but even when he collected it he was talking about his his ambition to own a V12 E Type roadster.

Everything else moved far away. Thankfully perhaps.

I should have realised. When I started driving, I was persuaded to pass on my Falcon racing bike (designed by Ernie Clements) to my younger brother. Within a few months it was a wreck.

When I got my new company car, my immaculate Mk1 A55 Austin Cambridge had to go. My brother wanted it and so I sold it to him. I then had to witness the rapid decline of my old car. The final straw was when he sold off the number.

A P5B I sold in 2001 appeared on Ebay recently - it was part dismantled but was the same car - the mileage was the same too which was odd as the car had been taxed every year till about 2008. How it passed MOT's I do not know

Sold at Retromobile was the C-type 1952 Le Mans I took so many years to build. I wrote the catalogue entry for RM Auctions and said that either it would fly or it would bomb, being a one off, even though it had appeared twice at Goodwood. It was the latter, and the seller lost a fair amount of money sadly for him.

I had a Mk1 Escort, last time I heard anything of it, the new owner had decided to drive it through a Ford, which had became a river!
