I visited the Glasgow Museum Resource Centre yesterday.
This is the central store for Glasgow Museums where artefacts not currently on display are stored.
It is not open to the general public but guided tours are given if booked in advance.
It is absolutely HUGE and packed with fascinating things: Arms and armour, ship models, paintings, taxidermy, transport and technology to name but a few.
My tour focussed on transport and the attached photos may give an idea of what there is to see.
At the risk of being accused of using worn out clichés it is like an Aladdin’s cave and I was like a wean in a sweetie shop not knowing what to look at first.
I have to wonder why the fine model of Glasgow’s much loved paddle steamer Waverley is in store and not out on general display.
Among the motor cycles there is a Brough Superior and, again, I have to wonder why this fine machine is not in the main museum.
Anyone interested in making a tour can go on line at “Glasgow Museums” to see the schedule of tours.
Meanwhile, fellow petrolheads, have a look at these pictures.
Unfortunately, the lighting and cramped storage makes proper photography impossible.

Some fine items in there, I assume they haven't the space to display it all - shame.

That was one of the disappointments that I felt with the new Transport Museum in Glasgow. It just isn't big enough to display all of the stuff that they have. I particularly didn't like their idea of 'sticking' cars on shelves projecting out of the wall. Some are 20 feet up!! Rolling Eyes

Hi
What's the little yellow job?

Re excess items, that is basically what Wroughton is to the Science Museum and even MOSI has stuff hidden away out of normal view.

The seating position reminds me of a Mclaren F1 road car Smile

Penman,

From memory, I think it's a Peel microcar.

Too true! Wroughton has to be seen to be believed, but in excess of 250,000 items of this country's engineering heritage deemed by the PC/Lefty lottery luvvies to be less important than a cycle track.

Ashley, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but two of the things I like about this forum is the lack of expletives and the lack of politics, it just about old cars, possibly I am in the minority ? But that's my view for what it's worth.

Cheers

Dave

The " little yellow job" is not a Peel although it looks very similar.
There was a label on it stating it was offered by one of the large London department stores (I think it was Harrod's but I can't be certain) as an "own label" product. There was no other information apart from stating the engine was 500 cc.
It was a single seater and had the look of an invalid carriage although I don't think it was intended as such. It looked to me as likely to be a marketing success as the Sinclair C5.
There was a great deal to see and limited time so I was much more interested in the other items.
Incidentally, London department stores offering own label cars is not new.
I visited the London-Brighton event a few years ago and there was a "Gamages" car which was French built but sold under the store's name.
