Whilst I do have the Mazda Eunos, I would love a TR6 although at £10k I fear the car would be a 'not immaculate' example?
Followed an E type roadster the other night and the sound was superb.

I do have a softspot for Hillmans, I would love a 'Mark' Minx Convertible.
Just recently my 8 year old daughter asked if I ever planned to restore an open top car cause she thought it would be nice, I told her I'd like to and I suppose you can't let your kids down can you? _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I always enjoyed motoring in my low-powered 'rag tops', even in cool weather.
If I still had one of these cars (perhaps excepting the one in the last pic), I would enjoy some more driving al fresco. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

| I would go for a short wheelbase, soft top Land Rover. A Series 1 if possible within budget or a Series 2 if not. Great fun and not much risk of points on my licence through speed! |

| On topic, for a change, I'm looking for a Mk1 Golf Cabrio Automatic as a summer cruiser. Maybe too new for here, but I've always wanted one. |

Been hankering for something open top for years now!!
My choice had always been a 2 seater mainly MGB or spitfire but they have become so common that I have opened my eyes to other makes and I find myself loving the sunbeam alpine a lot!
However a family nowadays dictates that such a car must be a four seater and after much thinking I made up my mind that a vitesse should be a bit of a hoot to drive with a 6 cylinder 2 litre and some not so normal cornering ability to keep all the family onboard entertained!!!
I might have found something similar within budget but in the lesser shape of a 13/60 herald belonging to a friend who has 4 and wants to have 3 in all, one of each and all soft tops, that is 1 1200, 1 1360 and 1 vitesse. Obvously he has 2 1360s so one of them is surplus!
Its still a long way but he has me in mind for it and promised it will not be sold to anyone else so seeing as I am in no hurry, I am more than happy to wait a couple more years. |

For many years I wanted a vintage tourer but they always seemed to be just beyond my reach unless they required work and then the cost would push it up beyond my budget again. I liked the look of an Austin 12 but the Bullnose Morris was probably my favourite.
How lucky was I then to be given a 1926 Vintage Dodge Brothers tourer from the widow of one of my customer's who had sadly died? The car was a non - runner but otherwise in pretty good condition. Parts were sourced from the U.S.A. and Australia and the chrome was carried out locally. Good old Ebay was also a source of some rare parts. Other Dodge Brothers owners helped me get the car running.
One problem I had was where the canvas roof and windscreen meet. I don't think these are original because the top would come down too far and although I am not particularly tall, it would touch my head. I have fitted a timber 'fillet' to the front of the roof which now gives me sufficient head room and it lookes quite smart - even if I say so myself!
Despite all my efforts, the big vintage tourer fails to impress my wife who has never shared my interest in old cars so I continue to plough a lonely furrow.
How can you not like a big old vintage touring car?? |
