BMC's ability to badge-engineer derivatives of their cars, to satisfy customers loyal to a particular marque then part of the BMC empire, is well known.

Does anyone here have one of the Mini-based examples (Riley Elf/Wolseley Hornet)? Or have you owned one in the past?

Had a 1964 Riley Elf from 1966 to 1968. Great little car, leather seats, walnut dash, and because the front grille was part of the bonnet it meant easy access to the distributor. Heavy on front tyres though, only getting about 4,000 miles per set

Slightly off topic.

Not a derivative but I managed to wear a set of front tyres out in a single journey! We took our 1965 Mini from Paris to Nice via Alpine roads on our way to our wedding! Minis are such fun..... Perhaps I should get another.

Never had a derivative (well if you do not count a clubman estate as such) but a friend has a mark 3 hornet and its a nice car to drive especially on hydro suspension, much softer than minis on dry suspension!

Hi
Why restrict it to BLMC derivatives?
What about the Innocenti, the Marcos Mini and the Mini Jem?

No doubt there were others as well.

Does a Mini Based Jimini count ?

I had one in 78/79 that had a copy of a land rover back on it painted in land rover colours

760 CMJ registered as an austin twin axled rigid body estate, I wonder if it still exists ?

Does the Innocenti de Tomaso 90/120 version count as a derivative?

[]

My aunt owned a 1967 Wolseley Hornet Mark 2 for 13 years, FEY 221Y which I drove many times. A lady in our village owned an early Riley Elf for many years in a mid blue colour (not Island Blue) with a white roof.
A girlfriend of my youth was given a 1967 Mark 3 Wolseley Hornet in 1972 by her parents as a reward for passing her A levels to enter teacher's training college.
HUN 925E was in white with a red roof and hydrolastic suspension.
She ran it until 1978.[/img]

When we were both still living at home, my Brother had a Wolseley Hornet with hydrolastics and it was a delightful little car. He would joke about it being a better class of mini and I remember my Dad and me pulling his leg about that for years after Laughing

Sadly, one night the Wolseley was vandalised by some idiot who smashed the illuminated badge. In those days the local police took such incidents rather more seriously than I think they do today and believe it or not, the culprit was caught and prosecuted.

Probably because of my interest in the great British marques, at the time I took a cynical view of "badge engineering". These days, it's nice to see a Wolseley badge on any car.

Hi
I can't find it there, but, I did once see a mini pickup with a trailer coupling (fifth wheel or ball I'm not sure) and a luton type semi connected to it.
