No but I was in the final fly-off to win a Piper Cherokee in '66
The first of the WDH Wills competitions (not a draw) won the flying lessons and got my PPL but c***ed up the final. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I've never won a car in a competition - in fact I don't think I have ever won anything in a competition - but I have been given several cars, and even been paid to take one away! |

No, but as an amateur golfer I'd have to turn pro to accept it. They then changed the prize by giving a tombola ticket to those who had made a hole in one in the competition so that it was not a win, but a lucky draw. But cheating started to proliferate at the some tournaments and at the Belfry they installed video cameras "to provide you with a souvenir of your hole in one". Amazing how the number of holes in one dropped! |

No, I haven't been that lucky but during my University days, Rag Week in February every year all students were encouraged to raise money for charity. I used to sell raffle tickets in my own local area for the prize was a new Mini and a local young lady in 1975 won the raffle.
Her prize was a new 850cc Mini in a maroon colour, "N" registration and all for a 25p ticket. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Years ago Steve Davis won a Lada Riva for a maximum break in the Lada Classic snooker tournament. Wonder what he done with it.? _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Soon after I had first got my SS on the road but before I had attended to creature comforts I won an umbrella at a Jaguar Drivers Club event. Perhaps it was a sympathy gift in case my sunroof leaked.

In the early 1980's I was president of the local Chamber of Trade and we raffled a car to raise money. I was listed as the promotor. There are many regulations to be complied with, including total number of tickets sold has to reach a minimum percentage level. Despite our best efforts sales were slightly short of this figure so we sent an explanation and continued with the draw (Vauxhall Nova) 8 months after the draw the regulators turned up asking to see ALL of the unsold tickets Members had been using them as scrap pads so a trawl around managed to locate a few thousand. Regulators were just about satisfied, but I never agreed to be a promotor again. Not worth the hassle. |

No, I have never won a car members of a certain vintage might recall the Heinz competition that offered 57 convertible Wolseley Hornets as a prize.
I think the conversions were carried out by Cray
ford.
I wonder how many of these have survived.? |

I have never 'won' a car, but my very first road car, a 1946 Austin Ten was given to me by my uncle when he bought a new A60 back in the dark ages. It didn't last me very long as it was using as much oil as it did petrol (literally!) and then the first MOT test came along in 1961! Goodbye Austin!
A girl cousin of mine won a Hillman Imp in a supermarket competition back in the seventies but unfortunately ended up rolling it on the dual carriageway to Southend and writing it off. Luckily she and our elderly grandmother passenger were shaken up, but not injured.

In 1970 I came in 2nd in the Toronto area MG Car Club's Mothers Day rally driving a '66 Plymouth Valiant with my baby daughter in the back seat. I won a Les Leston steering wheel which I still have unused hanging in my garage
