Many manufacturers are keen for their cars to feature in films, or on TV, to raise their products' profile etc etc .... ie product placement.

This often led to increased sales when the cars were current, and continued interest in them once in old age, interest that might not otherwise be so great, had it not been for their moment of fame. Which ones do you remember best?

The original "Italian Job" movie certainly extended the life of the real Mini! And yet BMC did everything they could to stop the cars being used!!! I guess with an outlook like that it's no wonder the company is consigned to history.

But not the original choice for stardom. Jaguar was chosen in this role but declined to participate as, according to Roger Moore, they did not need the publicity,

Not any specific car but the film "Genevieve" in the early '50s changed the public attitude to the "old car movement" from a fringe hobby to what it is today.

I believe Aston Martin sold about a thousand DB5s or twice or more than the norm because of Thunderball. Not so sure about Phantom IIIs.

The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries are excellent. You might like Campion too. He has a Lagonda too.
