Look's very much like a sherman with 75mm gun, at a guess where taken, during national service at a training depot 1950's ? |

Not a Sherman, but based on Sherman running gear; it's actually not a "tank" PROPER, but a "tank destroyer", probably an M10. It has an open-topped, lightly armored turret, and probably a 90mm main gun. The sloped glacis plate and hull sides afforded better protection for the hull but this was a hunting machine, utilized in quickly manuevering around and shooting hell out of the backsides of German armor, not standing and slugging it out, which as we all know was not a good idea against German armor. My uncle Freddie was a Tank Destroyerman with the 2nd armored division. As far as to where that particular photo was taken, I haven't the foggiest. _________________ nothing is ever so far gone as to be unsalvageable. see this bolt?..... |

It may well be a T14 Assault Tank

If the image in the link is Bovington, then the photo location is same place.
Note roof pan tiles, window design and doors. |

I didn't even consider the possibility of prototypes... centrist thinking, that! the hull machine gun mount looked "off" to me for an m10, but I was willing to cede field modifications. The Churchill was a far better tank than the Sherman. _________________ nothing is ever so far gone as to be unsalvageable. see this bolt?..... |
