Adding to that, one can see from these images that as said, Jackson's was roughly where the couple crossing the road with the pushchair. The identical shape and style of the bay window is the key to identify the building.
Then with the wonders of modern science Google maps shows that Jackson's once stood were there is now a raised flower bed outside Debenhams!
Shame, I was hoping the building would still be there so I could pose the car outside for a photo. All this, of course, assuming the car was supplied by Jackson's of Guildford.
Then & now...

Rich, I think that 97 High Street is further up the street in what is now pedestrianized, now a superdrug store.
That is assuming they haven't messed about with the numbering?
Not sure why the slope appears to go the other way though |

Not sure why the slope appears to go the other way though | No that's a different building - note it has two levels of bay window whereas Jackson's only has one and then the roof. In fact that's the picture that was puzzling me until Penman said the numbering had been changed. Then from the reader's comments in the Guildford newspaper people said the 'Old 97' has since been demolished to make way for Debenhams. |

I love the detective work but as I say, I've still got to confirm that Jackson's of Guildford is where my car came from. I certainly hope so now! |

Right, quick update on this thread. I went over to the barn this morning for a tinker and found that No1 cylinder was not sparking properly. Swapped the plugs for a clean set and all's fine. Also, should add that she started very easily on just the second turn of the starter motor and two or three strokes of the KiGass which is very good considering that she's not been started for 6 weeks and it's cold weather. Sounds sweet running on all six so I'm a happy man. Now just need a nice dry day to get her out for a decent run... Smiling |

Well that sunny day was today and I spent a great morning driving her around the quiet back roads of Berkshire. Just need to master the black art of that crash gearbox. And trust me, I will!

First thing to learn with a crash box is, steady, smooth, slow and feel. You with soon pick up double de clutch, then the art is toe and heeling whilst D-D-C. _________________ KA

Thanks chaps. Going up the gears is fine, it also has a clutch stop/brake which, if you use it, enables very swift upward changes. Going down; heel & toe is pretty well out of the question because not necessarily the centre throttle but the brake pedal is very high (like 3") higher than the throttle. The tricky bit is that he gap in ratios between 4th & 3rd is narrow so it only needs a medium dose of revs whereas there is a huge gap between 3rd and 2nd so it needs a real boot-full of revs. I'll get there...

Spent a most enjoyable day washing, and fiddling with the Lagonda in the winter sunshine. Mug of tea, bacon sandwich and the radio on quietly. I wanted to get it checked over ready for the Bicester Heritage meeting next Sunday; oil, water, tyres, battery that sort of thing.

Not updated this thread for a long while. The Lagonda went to a specialist in the spring for a general service and to have it looked over ready for the summer. Main issue was over heating and a re-cored radiator and replacement water pump cured that. Other than that a good grease-up, oil change and brakes adjustment etc. was all that was needed. I have also swapped the headlamps from P100 to P80 's which are slightly smaller and in my opinion don't overpower the front so much.
Last weekend I displayed her at the GRRC Annual Display at Goodwood and the following day visited a friend of ours who is head gardener at Fittleworth House. He's also a very good amature phtographer and he took these smashing pics of Bessie on the drive approach to the house. Very pleased with them too!
