was fortunate to catch most of this ancient flick the other morning; odd how present-day commentary notices Connery instead of Stanley Baker in this film, given that Sean has a rather minor role comparative? on topic; the kew trucks they showcased were magnificently simple machines and i lost the plot of the flick waiting for more truck scenes! still waiting to see Georges Cluzots' "wages of fear" to compare with Sorcerer.

aye in those days he was all-but unheard of wasn't he (Connery)? didn't 'Red' go on to be The Prisoner in the 60s?

Rick

The whole cast list reads like a who's who of the British Cinema in the late 50's.

Must have another watch of the film sometime!

Stanley Baker ... Tom Yately
Peggy Cummins ... Lucy, Hawlett Trucking Secretary
Patrick McGoohan ... C. 'Red' Redman, Foreman (Truck 1)

Herbert Lom ... Gino Rossi
William Hartnell ... Cartley, Hawlett Manager
Wilfrid Lawson ... Ed, Hawlett Mechanic
Sid James ... Dusty, Truck Driver (as Sidney James)

Jill Ireland ... Jill, Pull In Waitress
Alfie Bass ... Tinker, Truck Driver
Gordon Jackson ... Scottie
David McCallum ... Jimmy Yately, Tom's brother
Sean Connery ... Johnny Kates

Saw 'Wages of Fear' when it first came out 62 Rebel. I still remember the impressive trucks even though I was into model aircraft rather than trucks at the time.
I could only have been 14 when the film came out and it must have been 'A' or even 'X' rated, so I would have had to brazen it out at the ticket kiosk.

I think I'm vaguely related to William Hartnell (Doctor Who). Top film to watch, if a little sped up at times - spot the rare Vanguard pickup in the lorry yard too!

the missus bought me a DVD horror flick compilation amongst which are some older British cinema gems; one (i don't recall which) opened on a city street scene almost DEVOID of automobiles except for a mini. and there's often the odd latter-day star found chewing scenery as a bit player in these cheesy offerings. waiting to catch Ice Cold in Alex again...
