This car: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lotus-Elite-1974-/331737982131 does not come up when I search for Lotus Elite in the general search box for Ebay. Or browse through Ebay.

I just happened to see it when I searched for Lotus Elite on the Car and Classic site. There, in the middle of the results for the search, an Ebay advertisement appears which show the results for Lotus Elite in Ebay. And there you can see the car!
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/classic_cars.php?category=&make=29&region=&country=&era=&advert_type=&price=&keyword=elite&S.x=46&S.y=11&S=Search

Really strange - I cannot find any way to see the car browsing through Ebay - it is only visible by following the link in the ad on carandclassic.

What is going on here? Is it just me?

eBay search does operate stangely at times. It might be something to do with your location. If I put "Lotus Elite" in the general search it comes up second in the list.

For me, E-Bay defaults to E-Bay.ca and therefore is full of second hand Moose, Old Reindeer Parts and Bear Skins wrapped around young ladies.

The advert is via E-Bay.co.uk, I tried several ways to get the .ca version to show the car but it would not conform.

The same goes for Google. I have a Desktop link to Google.com because it will default to Google.ca. Amazon is the same.

I think that can sometimes happen if the seller changes an existing advert to save paying additional listing fees.
For example, the advert may have originally been for a Ford Transit.....
so when you search for Ford Transit, you would find a Lotus come up Confused

The only thing that frustrates me about ebay sometimes, is that it won't always allow, say, a British user (ie me) ask a question about an item for sale in the US. I assume it's a setting chosen by the seller - eg sell to USA only - but it's really frustrating nonetheless.

Problem solved. Well, not really solved but at least I know what cause the item not to appear when I search for it.
It seems I have to change the "Netherlands" value in the little box above the search results to "United Kingdom".
When I search for "lotus elite" in All Categories and the little box shows the default-for-me "Netherlands", I get 4,355 listings. If I change the value to "United Kingdom" I get 5,357 listings.
Even with the "Netherlands" value most of the listings are UK based items.
There must be something in the item description that keeps it out of "foreign" searches.
The annoying thing is that I cannot change the default value in the little box(as far as I can see).

When posting on E-Bay, one has the option to not show worldwide.

I long ago gave up any attempts to make sense of 'Search' on ebay.
